Dive Third Reef (www.DiveSriLanka.com)
By Dharshana Jayawardena.

Depth: 15 - 20 Meters.

A Marble Ray gracefully swims away from a photographer.
The Third Reef is a very good place to see different species of Rays.

A diver inches closse to one of the biggest Marble Rays we have ever seen in Sri Lanka! This was like a flying saucer!

The sun burns high in the cloudless blue sky. All around us there is no traces of land, or for that matter, no traces of humanity. No boats, no trawlers.
Its just calm deep blue sea all around as far as eye can see.

We are alone after a 22KM journey into deep sea. This is the last frontier of dive sites, the famed Third Reef off Negombo.

The visibility is absolutely great. From the boat, the bottom of the ocean 25M below can clearly be discerned. A dark cloud manifests under the boat and suddenly disperses with great speed. It is a large shoal of fish; what exactly, we do not know.

Suddenly a diver shouts and points leeward. Dolphins! A small school can be seen. They are playing; appearing and disappearing above the surface periodically. It is an amazing sight we savor for a long moment.
