The Nautilus (Nautilus pompilius
is a type of cephalopod and one of the earliest life forms on earth,
dating back to 400 million years, lives off the coast of Trincomalee Sri
Lanka. Only 4 species have been found around the world. It is indeed an
amazing creature which uses it's almost geometrically perfect shell to
regulate flotation by controlling chambers filled with air in a manner
very much like a diver using a BCD. Floats to shallower waters during
the night to feed and mate.
