Porcupinefish (DIODONTIDAE)

Frequently spotted by divers and snorklers on both coasts. Very becoming in their manner when they tried to hide under crevices and peer out with their large ET like eyes while fanning the pectoral fins in near frenzy. Left to Right: The Giant Black Spotted Porcupine (
Diodon hystrix), a juvenile Porcupine and (below) a Blotched Porcupine (Diodon liturosus).These fishes look cute but could give you a nasty bite if you stress them out in anyway.
