Diving in Sri Lanka is all year around.

Come to Sri Lanka whenever you want and you will find great, safe & fun diving all year around. The trick is to find the right place to dive at the right time.

November Through April - The West Coast (Negombo, Colombo, Beruwala, Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Weligama)
April Through October - The East Coast (Trincomalee, Batticoloa)
Mid March to Mid April - The Basses reef (The great barrier reef of Sri Lanka)

Special Notice: Diving in the East Coast is temporarily suspended because of Sri Lankan Navy restrictions.

Water temperature and wet suite type needed

Do I need a wet suit to dive around Sri Lanka? Is the water cold? NO!

It is summer all year around in Sri Lanka! The water is warm enough for you to swim, snorkel and dive in your underwear if you so wish.

However, on some dives, very rarely, you could encounter thermoclines (sudden draft of cold water) at depth, especially at the start of the season and the end.
Therefore we always recommend that you wear a 3MM "shortie" wet suite (up to your elbows and knees). This is more than enough and will also protect you from
any micro stingers you usually bump into at the start and end of a season.

In coastal areas the ground temperature could range from 65F to 95F (20C to 30C) on any given day. December and January is generally cooler (less humid).

This is the great tropics! So plunge in without second thoughts!
