Lotus Barge diving site – yet another shipwreck in Colombo waters - is a fantastic place in Colombo for scuba diving. This shipwreck was very recently discovered by Dharshana Jayawardena, a renowned diver from Sri Lanka who found the wreck and gave it its name. It is a tiny steam barge widely utilized in Sri Lanka around the last century.
After many years of effort, it was open for recreational divers to dive into this area and check out the vast beauty this wreck creates. It is a small beautiful barge resplendent with marine life. It has a depth of 28m and a 35 minutes boat time. The main fish variety found on there is wreckfish, including snappers.
Lotus barge diving zone has a lot to offer if you are in love with seeing the beautiful things that only a portion of the world gets a chance to see. The bow, Corals atop the single boiler, and bait ball of fish are fantastic scenes that you should experience with your eyes at least once in your lifetime.
It is beautiful how the bow is situated at the lotus barge, and there are so many fish types circulating the bow. A large steam boiler is located in the center of the wreck, which is also home to an abundance of marine life and a stunning coral garden—a very vibrant place.
The small patches covering the whole wreck, with varied shades of yellow, pink, and purple, are pinkish coral that gives the lotus barge diving site a glamorous look. A famous fish variety found on Lotus barge is snappers. Snappers live in all oceanic tropical and subtropical climates. Some snapper species can reach up to 1 m (3.3 ft). However, the cubera snapper can reach lengths of up to 1.52 m (5 ft 0 in).
Although some feed on plankton, most are active predators, preying on crustaceans or other fish. Although they can be kept in aquariums, most grow too quickly to make good aquarium fish. Near coral reefs, the majority of species can be found in depths of up to 100 meters (330 feet), while some can be seen as deep as 500 meters (1,600 feet)
The beautiful reefs are home to a wide variety of macro life, including many different nudibranchs, Indian Ocean coral reef fish, stingrays on the sandy bottom, and perhaps even some Napoleon Wrasses.
The Lotus Barge, one of the deeper wrecks in the area, have most of the soft corals, fish, and schools of Sweet Lips and Moray Eels. There are also frequently seen stingrays, trevallies, and barracudas. If lucky, whale sharks may visit you from January through March.
