Spinecheek Anemonefish

Appearance

Historically placed in its own genus, Premnas, because of a distinctive spine below the eye found in no other anemonefish. Adults are dark maroon to black with one to three white bars, and females grow noticeably larger than males.

Distribution & Habitat

Found across the Indo-West Pacific on coral reefs.

Host Anemones & Behavior

Unusually host-specific — it relies almost exclusively on the Bubble-tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) rather than the wider range of anemones used by other clownfish.
